Welcome Address
In the last decade, there has been tremendous progress in our understanding of the etiopathogenesis of hereditary endocrine tumors.
The networks involved in the regulatory mechanisms of endocrine tumorigenesis are complex and under the control of oncogenes and suppressor genes.
Every two years basic investigators and clinicians from distinct scientific disciplines get together to discuss and disseminate the most up-to-date information about the physiology and the pathobiology of these tumors.
The International Workshop on Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia, a Meeting focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary endocrine tumors, is at its 12th Edition, to be held in Gubbio, Italy in September 16-18, 2010.
Since the first Meeting this biennial appointment has attracted both basic scientists
and endocrinologists with an interest in the genetic, diagnostic, surgical and medical management of hereditary endocrine tumors, with ramifications into the sporadic tumoral counterparts.
The syndromes encompassing tumors of multiple endocrine organs also attract specialists from non-endocrine disciplines, such as oncologists, gastroenterologists,
gynaecologists, pathologists, radiologists, epidemiologists, geneticists, surgeons, and nuclear medicine specialists.
The atmosphere that characterizes these events is unique for the heterogeneity of
the participants, with a resulting mix of expertises at the highest levels.
The Meeting also represents a rare occasion to network with specialists from worldwide, providing you with an opportunity to learn within the context of formal talks by leading experts from various disciplines and informal discussions in theformat of questions and answers as well as poster presentations.
We expect that also the 2010 Conference will enjoy an international participation.

Who Should Attend
Scientists, clinicians, young investigators and other health professionals who have an interest in disciplines including epidemiology, oncology, surgery, gastroenterology, pathology, gynaecology, radiology, genetics, and nuclear medicine.
The tools of cellular and molecular biology will be fully explored.
New advances in targeted therapies will be discussed.
--------------------------------------------
This two-day Meeting will provide a forum for educating basic and clinical investigators on the most recent advances in the area of hereditary endocrine tumors.
Just as importantly, this Workshop will generate new concepts and produce provocative ideas that can be applied at both the bench and the bedside, particularly in respect to the treatment of a wide spectrum of common diseases, including thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary and gastroenteropancreatic tumors.
